Nordimex II: Huaraches & tacos

Nordimex II

Huaraches!

Having stayed in Mexico for two weeks you can guess that I have eaten a lot of great food already. Two things I would like to talk about today.

The Huaraches (e. sandals). These are an absolute delight and among, or if not my favorite food from México. These are elongated corn “sandals” filled with beans, and then topped with various things, such as meat, salsa, cheese and cream. It’s heaven in your mouth right there! Simply delicious!

Tacos, tacos!

I & E went with some of her family members to a local taco place which she used to frequent when she was younger. I love the look of these local places, no nonsense, no frills or fancy stuff. Just all about the food, ohhh and the food! So so good! You order your tacos and eat with a fresh glass of pineapple flavoured water. Really really good.

You start by ordering your tacos, and if you want more you just get the chef's attention and ask for how many more you want and of what type. You will surely leave really full and satisfied with the deliciousness of the food.

Going to a local food place, like the Taco place, or the family run Huaraches place is always a great option! 100% recommended.

When I come here I also like to think about how and what I can improve myself for my family here, as well as in Iceland, and of course what of the “mexican lifestyle” we can more adapt to in Iceland, since I really love the culture, people, and the food.

Something that I have mentioned in the previous article is the markets, I myself really just shop in the supermarkets in Iceland, since markets are not much of a thing there, sadly. However I will go out of my way when I travel back home to seek out smaller stores with more local items such as meats, vegetables, artisanal products and more. Support your local market, not the multinational conglomerates of the world!
