Corona and Christmas

Christmas crown

Today's topic may not be celebratory, or worthy of a Christmas carol, but it is pertinent given the circumstances in which we find ourselves. After the increase in cases we had around the country, it has been important to continue with preventive measurements to avoid a new wave of infections. But, before continuing, I will repeat the following clarification. For precise and up to date information, visit the official sites of the authorities, and in particular, to consult the government instructions in Iceland, the site covid.is.

(Falalalala lala la la)

Well, on this side of the world, Christmas arrived early this year. It came as soon as October ended. Despite the sign on our door announcing that here we only venerate our patron saint The Grinch, this year has been different. The darkness struck long before the snow (which, by the way, came and went), the neighbours began to put the lights in their windows and the social pressure overcame, seeing our dark windows surrounded by the many twinkling lights.

And that was how Christmas became present to our household. The authorities, anticipating that the population seems eager to go out like the shepherds to Bethlehem, decided to publish some recommendations for controlling the pandemic during this Christmas.

Among the recommendations is that you make a list of what you are going to buy and like Santa, check it twice, so that nothing is forgotten, preferably do it online, avoid buffet meals, hugs, kisses, people in general, do not receive visits from abroad ... Really the recommendation is simple: "Stay home!" But we know that this is not possible. The number of infected people has remained relatively the same these days, so we only have to wait until it does not rebound with the arrival of December. Meanwhile, government announcements swarm to remind us of the importance of taking the suggested actions during these dates.

On the other hand, and by the time I write these lines, they have already announced the vaccination program, which consists of ten groups, with priority health personnel in the front line of the fight against COVID-19, as well as personnel and individuals in contact with nursing homes and geriatric institutions. Group 6 includes those over 60 years of age, group 7 individuals with chronic diseases. Group 9 includes people with socio-economic difficulties, and finally in the last seat are those who request it and that the epidemiologist decides. However, apparently one of the vaccines has been delayed and they appear to have received fewer vaccines than anticipated, so the vaccination process will be slower than initially thought... we will continue to monitor.

Pottasleikir arrived today. With all this, I hope that we all spend, at least, another Christmas of being bathed, perfumed, and nicely dressed in the living room of our houses and above all ... healthy.

Take care!
